Core Human Rights Principles for Private Conservation Organizations and Funders

Writer: ICAICA

Updated: Feb 26

The United Nations Environmental Programme’s “Core Human Rights Principles for Private Conservation Organizations and Funders” was published today. The publication includes the Principles, statements from various stakeholders as well as a list of supporters of the Principles. The Inclusive Conservation Academy (ICA) partnered with the International Indian Treaty Council during the development of these Principles. To contribute to this effort, ICA circulated a questionnaire focused on highlighting concerns and recommending key elements of rights-based principles for ethical engagement with Indigenous Peoples by “Conservation Funders” and their intermediaries. To review the consolidated responses to the questionnaire, click here.

The full text of the UNEP Principles, along with other relevant information, is available here.

Please help disseminate the Principles! We suggest the use of social media tags Primary: #CoreHumanRightsPrinciples; Secondary #ForPeopleForthePlanet, and feel free to tag UNEP.
